Study on Mechanical Bearing Strength and Failure Modes of Composite Materials for Marine Structures

With the gradual application of composite materials to ships and offshore structures, structural strength composites that can replace steel should be explored. In this study, mechanical bearing failure modes a composite-to-metal joining structure connected by mechanically fastened joints were experimentally analyzed. The effects fiber tensile stress concentration on static structures investigated. For experiment, quasi-isotropic [45°/0°/–45°/90°]2S carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) glass (GFRP) specimens prepared with hole diameters 5, 6, 8, 10 mm. experimental results showed average CFRP specimen was 30% or higher than GFRP specimen. terms mode joint, cleavage observed in for 5 mm 6 mm, whereas net-tension 8 Bearing occurred specimens.
